Eligibility
Train to Gain is designed to be as inclusive as possible. In general, if a candidate is over 19 years of age, has a contract of paid employment or is a volunteer and is a British or European citizen, they are eligible to access the training available on Train to Gain.

Employee Eligibility Checklist
This Checklist can be used to confirm the eligibility of an employee for Train to Gain. You must be able to tick 1-3 and, usually, an option in 5 and then 6. However, a tick in any of 7-12 can apply instead of 5 and 6.
A. Universal Conditions - all 3 must be met

Have a contract of paid employment or be unpaid volunteers and working or volunteering for an employer in the London or South East region |

Be allowed paid time to train during working hours | |

Be 25 years of age or over (19-24 the preferred option is apprenticeship, but exceptions are allowed) | |

Meet any qualification requirement, usually by NOT exceeding a particular level |
B. Citizenship & Residency Conditions - 5 & 6 but see C

Be British Citizens (incl. certificates of naturalisation or registration) | |

Anyone legally living in England for 3 years immediately preceding the programme start, ignoring temporary absences, as long as any time-limited leave to remain will not run out before completion of the training | |

Have Refugee Status and remained UK resident since (or their spouse or child) | |

Have humanitarian protection OR discretionary leave OR ELE/R (and their spouse or child) | |

Be asylum-seeker (and their dependents) receiving income-based benefits OR assistance under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 or the Children Act 1989 or the National Assistance Act 1948 OR vouchers from the National Asylum Support Service | |

Be studying under reciprocal exchange agreements | |

Have "recently settled status" (i.e. ILE/R OR Right of Abode OR British Citizenship) granted during the 3 years immediately preceding the programme start (& their spouse of 1 year) |
Notes:
Ex-offenders are eligible, if they meet the conditions stated above.
Employees whose passports are endorsed with the words "No recourse to public funds" are eligible provided they meet the conditions stated above.
New Deal recipients are NOT eligible.
