QCF - Vocational qualifications are changing

The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) is changing the way vocational qualifications are created and accredited. JGA will be delivering the new qualifications as soon as they become available.
Find out how these changes will affect you and your staff here.
The key to the success of any business is a knowledgeable , competent workforce. National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are approved qualifications based in the knowledge and competence of your staff, and demonstrate your commitment to staff training.
JGA deliver a range of NVQs. Some, such as Health and Social Care, are essential to sector-specific organisations; others, such as Customer Service, will benefit any business. You staff may already know which NVQ they would like to take.
For further information, please see the frequently asked questions in the box below. If you have any further questions, or would like some more information about how your organisation can benefit from NVQs, please contact Pam Morgan on 020 8426 2666 or send us an e-mail.
Frequently asked questions
What will happen when my staff start an NVQ?
Throughout the NVQ, your member of staff, or 'candidate', will work with one Assessor. The Assessor will enrol the candidate and tell them everything they need to know about the NVQ. The Assessor and candidate will meet frequently, usually every fortnight, to assess the candidate's work against the NVQ standards and agree what work the candidate will do next.
In addition to these meetings, some NVQs have optional one-day workshops to help with background knowledge. Workshops also give candidates the opportunity to meet other candidates taking the same NVQ.
What will my member of staff need to do?
Your member of staff may be asked to:
- Write short reports
- Collect examples of documents they use in work
- Ask a manager, colleague or customer to write a statement about work they have done
- Take photos to illustrate and aspect of their job
The Assessor may:
- Observe them carrying out their job
- Discuss situations at work
- Speak to supervisors or managers
The candidates will keep all their work in an electronic portfolio.
How can I help my member of staff?
You will receive bi-monthly updates about the progress of your staff that will help you encourage and motivate them. You can also help your staff by:
- Helping them to choose appropriate units
- Allowing them time to meet with their Assessor
- Allowing them time to compile and organise their portfolio
Who can I speak to if I have any questions?
You can speak to the Assessor or contact Pam Morgan, the NVQ Centre Manager, on 020 8426 2666, or send us an e-mail.
